The Radar: Diamond Shine Bright – Exclusive Interview

Diamonds are forever…I usually spend hours and hours every week looking for new up and coming talent that wasn’t on my radar before. DC/PG Counties own Diamond Shine Bright is a rare gem. Although she knows sex sells, she always comes with the bars and puts the music first. I sat with Diamond Shine Bright for a 1 on 1 interview. I learned all about how she got started in music and her opinion on how men view women in today’s industry.

If you remember back in early June I did a story on an artist from Annapolis, MD named Sauna Tune, That was the first time I mentioned Diamond Shine Bright but I didn’t know much about her at the time. After checking out her verses on songs like “All Lat” and “Get It Crackin” curiosity got the best of me and I had to find out who the other half of this first class duo really was. I reached out to Diamond Shine Bright via her Facebook account and set up the interview and learned a lot about the 24 year old rapper who has just begun to scratch the surface of her full potential.

The Monarchy:

So Diamond with all of the options out there what made you want to pursue a career in music?

Diamond Shine Bright:

Well I just always loved rap music and the way the rappers I like were able to express themselves and paint you the picture of how It is in their world. I started writing when I was 14 and got into the studio for the first time when I was 18 and been working ever since.

The Monarchy:

Ok so what other kind of stuff are you interested in career wise and just in general?

Diamond Shine Bright:

My music is always number one! But I always wanted to be a clothing designer but I can’t draw lol and I enjoy cooking but didn’t really wanna pursue being a chef.

The Monarchy:

So if you could collaborate with any artist in the game who would it be and why?  Who Or What influences your music?

Diamond Shine Bright:

I actually never thought of that but maybe Migos they got some hits, and my favorite rapper is Boosie, I like the realness he gives in his raps. I just try to let my life influence my raps and I like to be original so I try not to listen to others while I’m in my own bag

The Monarchy:

So do you think that being an attractive woman with sex appeal makes it harder for men to take you serious as an artist in today’s industry or do you think that things have changed and it helps?

Diamond Shine Bright:

I believe it helps because as you can see sex sells in this game but to be sexy and have bars is the key because you can be sexy all you want and niggas just gonna ACT  like they’re interested into your music but really they thinking with their third leg lol.
