The Rise: BIA – Don’t F Up The Perico Princess’s Fungshway
The Rise: BIA
BIA, born Bianca Landrau, is determined to make a name for herself. She was first discovered by Star Trak legacy artist, FAMLAY, after he watched her video, “I’m High,” on YouTube. Thereafter, he introduced her to longtime friend, Pharrell Williams, who upon meeting, challenged her to write 16 bars to a beat on the spot. BIA accepted the challenge and delivered. Her rapid-fire thinking and determination won him over and he signed her to his creative collective, i am OTHER in 2014.
The half Puerto-Rican half Italian rapper, singer and songwriter has been sculpting her lane since her 2014 debut, #CHOLASEASON. Shortly after, she followed her Skateboard P- produced debut single “All Around the World” with the Stephen Garnett directed visual for “Bobby Brown,” serving as a tribute to the bad boy of R&B.
It was her 2016 releases, “Whip It” and “Gucci Coming Home” which helped establish BIA as one of hip hop’s fiercest rising female MCs. Both tracks received critical praise from the likes of, VIBE, XXL, Pigeons and Planes and more.
During the Summer of 2016, BIA landed a feature on reggaeton king, J Balvin’s “Safari,” which landed at #1 on the Latin Airplay chart and has enjoyed over 205 million streams worldwide on Spotify alone. On the massive summer smash, BIA lays it down in her half native tongue with fluidity and finesse. This added diversity separates her from the pack.
BIA has worked with many notable artists including T.I., performed at AC3, Art Basel, Revolt Music Festival, SXSW and Pusha-T’s “Darkest Before the Dawn” Tour and is currently on Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman” Tour in Europe.
With new music coming in 2017, BIA will continue to pave her path and make a name of her own.
